This is confirmed by the last sectoral report of the Spanish economy of 2018 of the CESCE. And not only that, footwear is the only sub-sector of fashion that has recovered pre-crisis levels. One of the main reasons for this is the excellent quality of the raw material, leather, which remains one of the main competitive advantages.
Elche and Elda, two of the most important clusters in the footwear sector.
The Valencian Community concentrates a total of 66.4% of companies in the footwear sector, especially Alicante, which concentrates the most important companies in the sector.
Regarding the type of footwear, that of women is the most important category of product, with a value of 950 million euros representing 35.62% of the foreign turnover of the footwear sector. The gentleman, meanwhile, points to the report that presents a positive behavior with a growth of 2% in pairs.
On the other hand, the data confirm that bovine tanning accounts for around 66% of the total production of the sector, followed very close by the sheep with 10%. However, and despite the fact that the leather sector faces the threat of other types of materials such as plastic, it should be remembered that the quality, durability and timelessness that leather offers makes it an unrivaled material.
Finally, the forecasts of the report indicate, in the short term, an additional growth of shoe sales in the domestic market due to the positive evolution of the expenditure of Spanish families.
